Tuesday 10th October. Noia.

I nearly didn't check for Orcas this morning, it's been so quiet recently and I was halfway out of the Ria when I did and good thing too.  There was an attack (I'm calling it that even if they are playing) yesterday right in my path just outside the Ria.
A quick about turn.
And I'm anchored at the head of the Ria. The weather's going to turn so I'll probably be in this Ria for a few days.

  1. Are they actually attacking boats ? Wonder why. (Steve)

  2. The short answer is 'they don't know'. The long answer is very long indeed.

  3. From what I have read, they are "playing" around, imitating something they have seen a matriarcal orca do perhaps? (that´s a theory) However, if they wanted to attack, they would jump on the boat or ram it and you would have no chance. Trouble is, their version of play is rather damaging to the boat even if their intentions are good. I hope the coast is clear soon for you, Brendan.

  4. Hi Brendan, I hope the Orcas have decided to move on and you can get going again.
Haven't you got to be in Porto soon for a flight?

    1. Hi Jules. I want to do the Spanish Ria's justice so have decided to stay up here and get the bus to Porto from Pontevedra on Tuesday. I'll set off in that direction tomorrow. There's been no further news on Orca locations.
