Tuesday 1st August - heading for Ramsgate. Not.

Conditions at North Foreland will be bad. Spring tide over F5 wind and at night as well. I'll go to Bradwell instead. A house made out of straw bales in Tollesbury. Fellow adventurer and my old mentor, the famous Alex Kelly.

After weeks of delays Nomad is almost ready to go. But, with strong south westerlies forecast for the foreseeable, La Rochelle by the 7th of August is looking less and less likely.

We're on the way. In she goes. Mike and Pam and myself in front of their boat Miela, my neighbours in the boat park and drinking companions. About to head home to Crowland near Spalding in Lincolnshire. It's a good photo of them anyway.

Here's the hero of the moment. The parts have arrived from Dover. I didn't get his name but he sounds unusually posh for a tractor mechanic, he's going to work through the weekend to get the job done and is hopefull for Monday. New rigging, fitted yesterday. £2k! I had it done 20 years ago for less than £500.

Tuesday 18th July

I've just had a phone call. Nomad definitely won't be going in this week. And next week the tides are alll wrong, we might be looking at August 1st unless they can do something special for me. And they can! Nomad is going in on Tuesday next week the 25th.

Big disappointment. Nomad was due to be put back in the water today but the tractor has broken down with a burned out starter motor. It might not even go in this week. .                         The tractor. I may as well go back to London.

40 hours with a needle gun. Nine coats of epoxy. and this rust spot came through after three coats. B&Q's own brand gloss would have done a better job. Nine coats of epoxy, one coat of primer, two coats of antifoul (supposedly good for 3 years) and she's ready to go back in the water.
